What is Type 1 Diabetes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

According to the American Diabetes Association, 5% of all people with diabetes have type 1. Type 1 diabetes, formerly known as juvenile diabetes, is typically diagnosed in early childhood and young adulthood. With type 1 diabetes the body does not produce insulin. Sugars and starches that are consumed are broken down into glucose, a simple sugar. The body uses glucose for its energy. Insulin is a hormone that the body needs to take glucose from the bloodstream to the cells in the body. Insulin injections are necessary to control blood sugar levels and without insulin injections, a host of complications can happen such as kidney issues, nerve damage and more.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
